Kate Woodward grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. She moved to Florida while studying at the University of Tampa. There, she received her BFA with a concentration in Ceramics. She moved back to Baltimore after graduation where she started working in field of Graphic Design. She then moved to Savannah, Georgia for a few years, where she bought her first kiln. She eventually moved back to Baltimore again, and currently works from her home studio.
Hand built sculptural forms were her first love. She created many sculptures mixing the human body and nature with materialistic objects. She built most pieces with coils, slowly working up and then adding more detailed shape and structure.
She now works on smaller pieces that are a bit more playful and utilitarian. Most of her current work is built with slabs or thrown on the wheel.
